We're a company of passionate, tech-savvy individuals who have a strong desire to create fantastic tools to make physicians' lives easier. We've spent years working in busy physician practices and have designed our web-based electronic health record (EHR) system from the physician's perspective. Each one of us on the team has spent hours shadowing in a physician practice to understand how the medical record is used throughout the practice and within the exam room. We've developed Elation to be an intuitive, easy to use solution that helps you quickly find, digest and act upon relevant clinical information to care for your patients. (Interested in joining?)

Growing up watching my father care for patients in his primary care practice, I've seen not only the impact healthcare professionals have on the lives of individuals but also the difficulties that healthcare providers must deal with to do the job they love: providing patient care.

I'm convinced that information technology will significantly improve the delivery of healthcare -- but only with better IT tools than are generally available now. Prior to Elation, I worked with senior healthcare leaders to help digitize health records within large health systems and with front-line physicians to use those applications at the point of care. Rather than help physicians provide better care, existing implementations too often leave physicians with sub-optimal tools to perform life-changing services. It's amazing that physicians still need to figure out work-arounds to counter system flaws that could harm patients. Elation was established to change that.

Conan holds a Bachelor of Science with distinction in Microbiology & Immunology with double minors in Management and Economics from McGill University, as well as a Masters of Health Sciences in Health Finance & Management from Johns Hopkins University's Bloomberg School of Public Health.

I've been involved in physicians' practices for as long as I can remember. My dad is a physician with his own practice, and at various points in time I've served as full-time receptionist, billing staff, and office manager. I've also been fortunate enough to interact with healthcare at a policy level. Prior to founding Elation, I was an economics professor at Stanford University, focused on healthcare and game theory, and in addition I spent two years as a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Scholar in Health Policy at UC Berkeley and UCSF. I also have a background in computer science.

I helped found Elation because I felt compelled. I see an immense threat to patient care brought on by inadequate IT systems and a vast disconnect between policy-makers and front-line clinicians. Technology has offered dramatic improvements in so many other aspects of life. Why not this critically important one? That's where Elation fits in, and that's why I'm here.

Kyna holds a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Math, summa cum laude, and a Masters of Science in Computer Science, both from Harvard University, as well as a PhD in Economics from Stanford University's Graduate School of Business. Previously, she was a professor at Stanford University's Department of Economics.

I'm passionate about building tools that solve real problems for people (especially clinicians and their patients). I'm thrilled to be part of Elation because there's an incredible combination of opportunity, ability, and intent to seriously raise the bar for software in healthcare. Prior to Elation, I've built systems and led teams at a number of startups in clinical markets. I've spent most of my career working hard to eliminate medication errors in hospitals. I'm a husband, a father, a musician, a surfer, and a terrible maintainer of vegetable gardens and elderly automobiles.

My career has been dedicated to improving the quality of life of clinicians, their teams and patients. After nearly a decade consulting with private practice owners, I’m empathetic to the myriad of choices they face and am committed to helping them navigate that path to achieve practice goals. That’s why I joined Elation – our private practice roots and world-class team allow us to to do what no one else has: build tools that physicians actually love! I’m here to amplify our community growth of the country's most progressive physicians who expect more from technology.

Prior to Elation, I helped build a healthcare management consulting company and value-add distributor of hearing technology from early startup stage to $26M in annual revenue. As a member of the executive management team, I led North America growth for a network of 650 clinics.

Working as a medical scribe during my undergrad years introduced me to the world of electronic health records. During this introduction, I became aware of how their flaws and inefficiencies regularly frustrated providers, keeping them from focusing on their patients. Since then, I’ve worked with other systems and felt that there was no hope. Each was built with the same fundamental ability to demand a physician’s attention.

Elation is different. It focuses on preserving the relationship between providers and patients. It diverges from other EHRs which are bogged down with unintuitive interfaces, clunky workflows, and customer service that is anything but helpful. I saw these changes and knew it was something I wanted to help build. An opportunity to be part of a radical change to healthcare IT. In my time away from Elation, I like to write short stories, play lacrosse, and watch movies.

My fascination with the practice of medicine began at the age of 8 when I spent a month in the hospital with a broken femur. This stay inspired me to focus my studies on attending medical school where, during my second year of college, I had the chance to work as a medical scribe. Despite having a father who is a physician and mother who is a nurse, it was during this experience that I truly began to understand the challenges that healthcare providers face in their effort to provide the best possible care for their patients. This exposure is what ultimately influenced my decision not to pursue medical school and instead focus on how I can improve the healthcare environment for physicians and patients alike. After using multiple EHRs over 9 years in the medical scribe industry, I stumbled across one that was different: Elation. I was impressed with its unique approach, vision, and how it could impact healthcare. I am thrilled to be part of a group that is determined to move the needle in the world of healthcare technology in its quest to provide phenomenal care for all. When I am not at Elation, you can find me exploring San Francisco and surrounding areas, cooking, and training to run my first marathon.

Since early in my software development career, I’ve understood that programming and automation are simply a means to an end. All we can do on a computer can in theory be done manually, but if done so, the costs and loss in efficiency can be a tremendous burden. By contributing to the development of Elation’s platform, I have a real opportunity to enable ways that physicians can give better care to their patients. Elation has been designed from the ground up to improve efficiency for the physicians and their staff.

Prior to Elation, I was involved in implementing new technologies for the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) to facilitate knowledge exchange and dialog between physicians, researchers and panelists. During the same period I also developed software aimed at facilitating internal communication and document-sharing for European medical societies. Most recently, I was an early developer at Busbud where I was challenged to build infrastructure able to handle millions of intercity bus schedules on a daily basis, and create adaptive algorithms to automate validation of data accuracy.

Louis has close to 10 years experience in software development and automation.

After 3 decades as an M.D., I've found that the medical record is not just a record; it is the most important tool in my armamentarium for diagnosing and treating disease. In a day and age when information technology is revolutionizing our lives for the better, it should revolutionize my medical record.

Legacy EMRs, however, are not built with the clinical encounter in mind and in fact cause physicians to spend significantly more time in caring for the same patient load. I've always blamed it on the immaturity of information technology, likening the situation to the 11th century Chinese adventurer who tried to reach the moon by tying himself to a rocket: right idea, immature technology. But then I started using ElationEMR: it is built with the clinical encounter in mind, and is meant to provide me with a greatly improved tool for diagnosing and treating disease.

Dr. Fong graduated from the University of Alberta Medical School, and has practiced as a family physician in Canada, in Illinois and in California. Dr. Fong currently practices in Walnut Creek, California and besides his office practice, also actively attends on his own patients who are admitted to the hospital or to nursing homes.

I have an ongoing interest in improving health care delivery. Five years ago while consulting with the venture capital firm of Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield & Byers, I became interested in the EMR as a means to do this. Unfortunately, available EMRs to date are sorely deficient and of little value to the practitioner. I was looking to do better and was fortunate to be introduced to ElationEMR, they having accomplished the first quantum shift in EMR design that I have seen. I am pleased to be able to contribute my experience and ideas to this worthy project.
