Let Primary Care Billing Run in the Background

For too many primary care practices, billing still feels like hand-assembling every claim. Even when you “have a biller,” physicians and staff end up checking codes, fixing denials, and chasing missing dollars — often after hours.

Elation’s new AI-powered touchless fast lane for routine billing is built to make that work largely disappear.

Instead of treating billing as a separate system bolted onto the chart, Elation connects what actually happens in the visit — the note, the problem list, the orders, the medications, your billing history — and uses that context to move simple claims forward with minimal human effort.

In pilot practices, more than 95% of eligible routine claims are fully submission-ready at note sign-off — without extra billing work. For front-line clinicians, that shift is tangible.

“As both the physician and the biller, I used to feel like I had two full-time jobs,” said Keith Perkins Jr., MD, owner and internal medicine and pediatrics physician at Premier Medicine and Pediatrics. “Now, I can see the patient, document the visit the way I always have, and for routine visits the rest is largely handled for me.”

How the “Fast Lane” Works

Elation’s fast lane isn’t about black-box automation; it’s about using the clinical story to do more of the tedious work for you.

  • Smart coding in the encounter. Using pre-visit details, Note Assist-drafted visit notes, the problem list, orders, medications, and billing history, Elation suggests more complete diagnosis, procedure, and drug codes before a bill is ever created. The work becomes confirming what’s there, not building it from scratch.

  • A touchless lane for predictable work. Claims for routine visits are checked against coverage and billing rules. Those that meet a confidence threshold you define are routed into a touchless fast lane for submission. Exceptions are held back and clearly flagged for review — keeping clinicians and billers focused on the smaller set of claims that truly need judgment.

  • Clear performance targets. The workflows are designed to push practices toward fundamentals that matter: denial rates under 5%, first-pass paid rates above 95%, and a high share of claims that are paid on the first pass without rework after the note is signed.

The result isn’t just cleaner claims; it’s time and attention given back to care.

Billing That Supports, Not Distorts, Primary Care

Elation’s approach starts from a simple belief: reimbursement for routine primary care should not be this hard.

“Having been the biller for a small primary care practice, I’ve seen firsthand how much work goes into just getting paid fairly for routine visits,” said Kyna Fong, CEO and co-founder of Elation Health. “With these new fast lane workflows, we’re moving closer to a world where clinicians see the patient, the clinical story is captured in the chart, and the administrative busywork happens quietly in the background.”

For practices, that means:

  • Less routine billing work for clinicians and staff

  • More predictable revenue from everyday visits

  • More energy left for complex patients and strategic decisions, not status-checking claims

Billing will never be the most meaningful work in primary care. With the right AI, it doesn’t have to be the most time-consuming either.
