Nearly 40% of Primary Care Clinicians Now Use AI Daily for Clinical Documentation, Elation Survey Finds

A new survey conducted by Elation Health reveals that 39.3% of independent primary care clinicians now use AI-powered tools daily, particularly for clinical documentation—a sign of growing but selective adoption of artificial intelligence in frontline healthcare.

The AI in Primary Care survey, conducted with 291 Elation Health customers, aimed to better understand how clinicians view AI today, how they’re using it, and what they need in order to trust it more deeply.

Key Findings: Trust, Workflow, and Reliability Are Top Priorities

Respondents ranked accuracy and reliability as the most important factor when evaluating AI tools—far ahead of cost or time savings.

Most Important Factors in Choosing an AI Tool:

  • Accuracy & Reliability – 59%
  • Seamless Workflow Integration & Ease of Use – 22%
  • Efficiency & Time Savings (ROI) – 13%
  • Cost & Affordability – 6%

The results underscore the fact that clinicians are prioritizing clinical integrity and operational fit over generalized claims of speed or affordability. This points to a demand for AI tools that perform under real-world conditions, with minimal disruption to existing workflows.

Sentiment Check: Clinicians Are Interested—and Looking for the Right Fit

Clinicians are increasingly open to the role AI can play in improving daily practice—but they’re thoughtful about how and when to adopt it. In our survey, 59% of respondents described their sentiment toward AI as “Positive” or “Very Positive,” reflecting growing recognition of its potential to streamline documentation and reduce administrative burden.

An additional 24% reported feeling “Neutral.” Rather than signaling hesitation, this suggests that many clinicians are still evaluating how well AI tools align with their clinical standards, workflows, and patient care priorities.

Clinical Confidence Starts with the Right Tools

This survey makes one thing clear: clinicians are ready for AI that actually works for them—tools that prioritize accuracy, ease of use, and seamless integration into the daily flow of care. Adoption is growing, but it’s driven by trust, not hype.

That’s why Elation’s AI solutions, including Note Assist, are built with a clinical-first mindset.
